The CPR and Baby Safety Class is ideal for new parents, grandparents, babysitters, and anyone interested in learning the basics of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, choking interventions, baby-proofing your house, and other preventative safety practices to follow with an infant or toddler.
Throughout this class, you will learn how to assess for and detect a cardiac emergency in an adult, a child, and an infant, the steps needed to get emergency help on the way, and how to perform lifesaving treatment until emergency services arrive. In addition to this, you will learn many first aid skills, including how to relieve a choking victim, how to respond in an allergic reaction or poison emergency, and what to do if someone experiences a seizure or severe burn.
Once all class skills are complete, you will receive an American Heart Association CPR/First Aid certification.
About the instructor:
Sydney McCray is a Certified Firefighter, Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Responder, and serves on the Public Information Division for the Maury County Fire Department. She was awarded the Star of Life for her work on a lifesaving call in the Summer of 2023, was a Top 10 Department Responder in 2023 and 2024 and was the Valedictorian of her Fire Academy class. Through her work with the MCFD, Sydney has responded to countless medical and CPR in Progress calls. She has observed, firsthand, how bystanders in a CPR event can feel helpless and not know how to act in an emergency and, as a result, sees how this can directly affect the patient’s outcome.
This course begins with a discussion of the purpose and steps of CPR and the circumstances where it may be required. Then followed by a demonstration of the skills.
The instructor will guide you with a hands-on demonstration of CPR (feedback and critique will be provided until the student feels comfortable with the process). Instructor will go over how to clear the obstruction. Your new skills will be reinforced by introducing different scenarios in which a caregiver may find themselves.
